Description

Allowance For Doubtful Accounts is a contra asset account that is used to estimate the amount of accounts receivable that a company expects will not be collected from its customers. It reduces the total value of accounts receivable on the balance sheet to reflect the net amount that is likely to be turned into cash. It also records the bad debt expense on the income statement to match the revenue and expenses in the same accounting period.
