Description
The average number of shares that a company has during a period, without counting any shares that can be created from other securities (such as bonds or options). This number is used to calculate how much profit each share earns (Basic EPS). It can be found by adding up the number of shares at the beginning and end of each month, and dividing by the number of months in the period.
