- State-backed HUMAIN is finalizing partnerships with major US tech firms to build next-generation data centers.
- The deals accelerate Saudi Arabia's multi-billion dollar push to become a global AI infrastructure leader.
- The move comes amid intense global competition for AI compute capacity and regional digital sovereignty.
HUMAIN, the Saudi Arabian artificial intelligence company founded by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is poised to announce a series of strategic deals with Amazon, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Elon Musk’s xAI, according to people familiar with the negotiations. The partnerships are centered on the co-development of advanced data centers, significantly expanding the kingdom's AI computing footprint.
The impending announcement, expected as soon as tomorrow, marks a major step in Saudi Arabia's ambitious plan to diversify its economy away from oil under its Vision 2030 framework. HUMAIN, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was established in May 2025 as a full-stack AI ecosystem tasked with building sovereign data centers, cloud platforms, and generative AI solutions.
This new wave of collaboration with US technology leaders builds on HUMAIN's existing strategic alliance with NVIDIA, which was aimed at establishing AI "factories" in the kingdom with a targeted capacity of up to 500 megawatts over five years. The involvement of Amazon, a cloud computing giant, and AMD, a key player in the AI chip market, signals a broadening of the technical and financial firepower behind Saudi Arabia's AI ambitions.
For xAI, the deal represents a strategic move to secure vital data center capacity outside the US and Europe, as demand for AI compute continues to outpace supply globally. "You're seeing a convergence of capital and geopolitical strategy," said one executive briefed on the talks, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. "The Saudis have the capital and the desire for technological sovereignty, while these US firms need partners to scale infrastructure rapidly."
Efforts to reach representatives from HUMAIN, Amazon, and AMD for comment were not immediately successful. A spokesperson for xAI declined to comment.
The global data center market is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by the compute-intensive demands of large language models and generative AI. HUMAIN's aggressive entry, backed by a planned $10 billion global investment in AI and technology startups, positions it as a formidable new state-backed player in an arena traditionally dominated by American and Chinese tech giants.
While the full financial terms of the new deals were not disclosed, the scale of the planned data center construction is understood to be substantial. The partnerships are expected to involve not only the physical construction of facilities in Saudi Arabia but also collaborative work on the underlying technology stacks and software platforms.
Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated the launch date of HUMAIN's ONE agentic AI operating system. It has been launched recently, not tomorrow.
