• The UK government is preparing to announce a $10 billion purchase of Boeing aircraft, according to Howard Lutnick.
  • The deal comes as the UK reviews its defense procurement strategy amid growing geopolitical tensions.
  • Boeing's commercial arm has seen increased activity in early 2025, with several major orders already announced.

UK's Major Aircraft Procurement

Howard Lutnick, chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, revealed that the UK will soon announce plans to acquire $10 billion worth of Boeing aircraft. While the exact mix of military and commercial planes remains unclear, the deal would mark one of the UK's largest defense or aviation purchases in recent years.

This potential agreement follows the UK Parliament's April 2025 research briefing which indicated plans to expand the F-35 fleet. "The Ministry of Defence continually reviews the expected threat and the ability of our forces to counter it," Defence Procurement Minister Maria Eagle stated last month, suggesting new acquisitions were under consideration.

Boeing's Growing Order Book

The reported deal would add to Boeing's strong start to 2025. Norwegian recently agreed to purchase ten Boeing 737-800 aircraft, while BOC Aviation placed an order for 50 new 737-8 aircraft. British Airways also moved to acquire Boeing's Gatwick Airport MRO operations in February.

Boeing's Commercial Aircraft Finance Market Outlook shows increasing delivery volumes for 2025, requiring more financing for both advance payments and deliveries. The UK deal, if confirmed, would significantly boost Boeing's order book and potentially impact the aerospace manufacturer's stock performance when officially announced.

Attempts to reach both UK defense officials and Boeing representatives for comment were unsuccessful ahead of the expected announcement. Market analysts suggest the deal could include a mix of military aircraft like the F-35 and commercial planes to modernize both defense and civilian fleets.
