Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES; LSE:0IJ2.L), New England's largest energy delivery company, provides regulated electric transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution, and water services to approximately 4.4 million residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire; its subsidiaries include Connecticut Light and Power, Eversource Energy Service Company, Eversource Hartford Gas, NSTAR Electric, NSTAR Gas, Public Service Company of New Hampshire, and The Aquarion Water Company, serving more than 1.2 million electric customers in Connecticut, over 500,000 in New Hampshire, 1.4 million electric and 300,000 natural gas customers in Massachusetts, plus 230,000 water customers. Founded in 1927 as Northeast Utilities and rebranded to Eversource Energy in 2015, the company maintains its principal headquarters in Springfield, Massachusetts, with additional corporate offices in Hartford, Connecticut, and Boston, Massachusetts. Eversource operates nearly 4,270 circuit miles of electric transmission lines, 72,000 pole miles of distribution lines, and 6,459 miles of natural gas pipeline, emphasizing grid modernization, reliability enhancements, and clean energy integration such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure and geothermal networks. In recent developments, Eversource introduced a $24.2 billion five-year capital investment plan for 2025-2029, up nearly 10% from the prior plan, allocating $16.2 billion to electric and natural gas distribution, $6.8 billion to electric transmission including substation developments and aging infrastructure replacements, and additional funds for underground cables, clean energy projects, and initiatives like the $1.6 billion Cambridge underground substation; the company completed its $1.675 billion acquisition of Aquarion Water Company in December 2017, sold its 50% stakes in South Fork Wind and Revolution Wind offshore wind projects to Global Infrastructure Partners for approximately $1.1 billion in mid-2024, entered a 10-year precedent agreement with Algonquin Gas Transmission in September 2025 for lower-cost natural gas supply in southeastern Massachusetts tied to a pipeline expansion, and secured a U.S. Department of Energy $8.6 million grant in December 2025 to expand its geothermal network in Framingham, Massachusetts.
