Business
Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. (Ticker: 0V38.L) operates as a gold mining, development and exploration company focused on high-grade operations in stable jurisdictions. The company produces gold from its core assets, including the Fosterville Mine in the State of Victoria, Australia; the Macassa Mine in the Municipality of Kirkland Lake, northeastern Ontario, Canada; and the Detour Lake Mine in northeastern Ontario, Canada; complemented by exploration and development activities across these properties and regional upside potential. It targets gold producers and explorers, with operations spanning Canada and Australia. Founded in 1983 as Goldpac Investments Ltd. and renamed Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. in December 2016 after previously operating as Newmarket Gold Inc., the company maintains headquarters in Toronto, Canada. In a major strategic development, Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. completed a merger of equals with Agnico Eagle Mines Limited on February 8, 2022, in a transaction valued at approximately $10-11 billion, after which its shares were delisted from major exchanges including the TSX, NYSE and ASX, with former Kirkland Lake shareholders receiving 0.7935 Agnico shares per Kirkland share and the combined entity continuing as Agnico Eagle Mines Limited. This integration created a larger gold producer with enhanced reserves of over 48 million ounces, increased liquidity of about CAD 2.9 billion, and synergies including operational improvements in the Abitibi region. No significant standalone activities or new launches have been reported for Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. post-merger as of late 2025.
