The ETF provides investors with diversified exposure to Australian resources companies, including leading holdings such as BHP Group Ltd (approximately 38%), Woodside Energy Group Ltd, Rio Tinto Ltd, Northern Star Resources Ltd and Fortescue Ltd; it holds a total of around 51 equity positions primarily in non-UK stocks focused on Australasian equities, with minor cash allocations. Listed on the NZX Main Board since April 6, 2015, the ETF is issued and managed by Smartshares Limited (trading as Smart), a wholly owned subsidiary of NZX Limited established in 1996 and headquartered at Level 2, NZX Centre, 11 Cable Street, Wellington, New Zealand. The fund targets investors seeking sector-specific exposure to Australian energy and mining markets, with assets under management around NZ$79.7 million and a gross dividend yield of approximately 3% as of late 2025. In recent developments, Smartshares released a fund update for the quarter ended September 30, 2025, reflecting ongoing performance monitoring amid stable trading with daily volumes and capitalization data; the manager continues to emphasize market-tracking products as part of its broader suite of over 40 ETFs serving individual, institutional and iwi investors. No major acquisitions, new product launches or strategic alliances specific to ASR were reported in 2024-2025, with operations focused on index replication and New Zealand-domiciled availability.
