Business
E.ON SE (EON.BR) is a leading European energy company focused on the generation, distribution, and retail supply of electricity and natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The company offers a broad portfolio of energy products and services, including renewable energy generation from wind, solar, and hydroelectric sources; conventional power production from gas-fired plants; smart metering and grid infrastructure management; energy efficiency solutions; and customer-facing retail services such as fixed-price energy contracts, green energy tariffs, and digital energy management apps. E.ON operates across key segments including energy networks, customer solutions, and non-core energy supply, serving approximately 50 million customers primarily in Europe with significant presence in Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, Romania, and other Central and Eastern European countries; it maintains its global headquarters in Essen, Germany, where it was founded in 2000 following the merger of VEBA and VIAG. Recently, E.ON has pursued strategic expansions in renewables, including major investments in offshore wind projects such as the Hohe See and Albatros wind farms in the German North Sea, operational since 2022; formed alliances for hydrogen infrastructure development to support the energy transition; and completed the acquisition of additional grid assets in the UK to bolster network operations amid growing electrification demands. In 2024, the company announced a €15 billion investment plan through 2028 targeted at grid modernization and renewable integration, alongside divestitures of non-core coal assets to streamline its portfolio toward net-zero goals.
