Business
iShares Physical Gold ETC (IGLN.L) is an exchange-traded commodity (ETC) that seeks to track the day-to-day movement, less fees, in the price of gold by holding physical gold bullion meeting London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Good Delivery standards; the ETC provides investors with exposure to physical gold without requiring physical delivery, backed by allocated gold bars held in secure vaults by custodian JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., London Branch. Issued by iShares Physical Metals Plc, a special purpose vehicle under BlackRock, Inc., the ETC operates as a series of secured, limited recourse, metal-linked debt securities with no final maturity date, a total expense ratio of 0.12% per annum applied daily to the metal entitlement, and accumulating distribution policy; it trades on exchanges including the London Stock Exchange, Xetra, and Frankfurt Stock Exchange, with listings also in Mexico and potential expansions. Launched on April 8, 2011, and domiciled in Ireland with assets under management exceeding EUR 28 billion (equivalent to approximately 7.76 million ounces of gold in trust), the ETC targets institutional and retail investors seeking commodities diversification, inflation hedging, and precious metals exposure across Europe, the UK, and select international markets. In recent developments, iShares Physical Metals Plc issued multiple new tranches of securities in December 2025, including 210,000 securities (Tranche 2399) on December 17 at $83.78 per security with 0.0194 fine troy ounces entitlement, 599,000 securities (Tranche 2400) on December 17 at $83.94 per security, and 34,000 securities of the EUR-hedged variant (Tranche 131) on December 18 at €76.48 per security with 0.0208 fine troy ounces entitlement, expanding total securities outstanding and enhancing liquidity.
