Business
iShares MSCI Taiwan UCITS ETF (ITWN.L) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of the MSCI Taiwan 20/35 Index, which measures the performance of large- and mid-cap segments of the Taiwan equity market covering approximately 85% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization. The ETF employs full physical replication by holding the constituent stocks in the same weightings as the index, with exposure to diversified sectors including information technology, financials, and consumer discretionary; top holdings feature leading Taiwanese firms such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., and MediaTek Inc. Managed by BlackRock Advisors (UK) Limited and launched on October 28, 2005, the fund is domiciled in Ireland with its registered office at 1st Floor, 2 Ballsbridge Park, Dublin, Ireland, and distributes dividends semi-annually in USD with a total expense ratio of 0.74%. It is listed on multiple exchanges including the London Stock Exchange (ITWN LN in GBP and IDTW LN in USD), Euronext Amsterdam, Deutsche Boerse Xetra (IQQT GY), Borsa Italiana, and SIX Swiss Exchange. The fund targets institutional and retail investors seeking unhedged exposure to the Taiwanese equity market, operating primarily through European exchanges and registered for distribution in countries including the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, and others across Europe. It was formerly known as iShares Public Limited Company - iShares MSCI Taiwan UCITS ETF. In February 2020, the ETF underwent a significant benchmark change from the MSCI Taiwan Index to the MSCI Taiwan 20/35 Index to better comply with UCITS diversification rules limiting single-issuer exposure to 20% (with up to 35% in exceptional cases). Recent developments include strong performance with year-to-date returns of approximately 26% as of late 2025 and robust asset growth amid rising interest in Taiwan equities, supported by BlackRock's expanded ETF offerings in the region. The fund engages in securities lending to enhance returns, generating 0.08% in the latest annual period with average on-loan balances around 9% of AUM fully collateralized above 108%.
