VanEck Semiconductor UCITS ETF (SMGB.L) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to replicate, before fees and expenses, the performance of the MVIS US Listed Semiconductor 10% Capped ESG Index. The ETF provides exposure to the largest and most liquid US-listed companies generating at least 50% of revenues from semiconductor production, semiconductor equipment, or related activities; it applies a 10% cap per constituent and an ESG filter to promote environmental and social characteristics under SFDR Article 8. Launched on December 1, 2020, and domiciled in Ireland as part of VanEck UCITS ETFs plc, the fund is managed by VanEck Asset Management B.V., with its European head office in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is listed on exchanges including the London Stock Exchange, Euronext, and Deutsche Boerse. The accumulating ETF, with a total expense ratio of 0.35%, focuses on approximately 25 holdings in the technology sector, primarily non-UK stocks, targeting institutional and retail investors seeking pure-play semiconductor exposure amid trends in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and advanced technologies. The fund's portfolio emphasizes leading semiconductor firms such as NVIDIA, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, ASML, Broadcom, AMD, and others involved in chip design, fabrication, and equipment; it employs full physical replication without securities lending for high-quality tracking. Geographically, it concentrates on US-listed companies with global operations, offering unhedged USD exposure to European investors across markets in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, and others. VanEck, the fund provider founded in 1955 and headquartered in New York with European operations since acquiring Think ETF in 2018, manages the ETF within its broader suite of over 100 UCITS products covering sectors, smart beta, and asset classes. Recent developments include surpassing USD 2 billion in assets under management in June 2024, doubling from USD 1 billion reached in summer 2023, driven by strong sector performance from AI demand and leaders like NVIDIA. In September 2025, the ETF underwent a change of characteristics notification on Euronext, potentially reflecting index or operational adjustments. VanEck continues expanding its European presence, including new ETF listings in France featuring the Semiconductor UCITS ETF alongside defense and other thematic products, underscoring strategic growth in UCITS offerings.
