Business
STMicroelectronics N.V. (STM.MI) designs, develops, manufactures and markets semiconductor integrated circuits and discrete components for a wide range of applications including automotive, industrial, personal electronics, communications equipment and computers. The company offers microcontrollers under the STM8 and STM32 families; application-specific analog, power management and battery management system ICs; sensors such as touch, motion, environmental, magnetic and MEMS; RF products including cellular modems, short-range wireless connectivity and automotive radar; custom ASICs and system-on-chips; and silicon carbide power devices for electrification. It also provides edge AI and computer vision solutions, digital signal processors, automotive MCUs and microcontrollers, and LoRa connectivity devices; operates through three segments: Automotive and Discrete Group (ADG), Analog, MEMS and Sensors Group (AMS), and Microcontrollers and Digital ICs Group (MDG). STMicroelectronics N.V. was founded in 1987 through the merger of SGS Microelettronica and Thomson Semiconducteurs and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with principal manufacturing facilities in Europe, the United States and Asia, serving customers worldwide across automotive, industrial, cloud computing, mobile, telecom and consumer markets. The company maintains global operations with design centers and sales offices in more than 40 countries and generates significant revenue from Europe, the Americas and Greater China/Asia Pacific regions. It has no major parent company but collaborates extensively with strategic partners in the semiconductor ecosystem. In recent developments, STMicroelectronics launched the STM32N6 series, its most advanced general-purpose microcontroller with ST Neural-ART Accelerator technology supporting generative AI workloads at the edge, unveiled in September 2025; expanded its silicon carbide portfolio with 8-inch Gen 3 Schottky diodes and MOSFETs for EV traction inverters, announced in October 2025; and deepened partnerships including with Ampere Computing for next-generation ARM-based processors and with Infleqtion for quantum computing integration in automotive and industrial sensing. The company completed a CHF 450 million convertible bond issuance in June 2025 to bolster its financial position for expansion; formed a strategic collaboration with Dassault Systèmes for AI-enhanced design tools; and invested in a new R&D center in Italy focused on power electronics, reflecting ongoing commitments to automotive electrification, AI enablement and sustainable manufacturing within the last year.
