Business
Satrix MSCI World ETF (JSE: STXWDM) is an exchange traded fund that tracks the performance of the MSCI World Index in South African rand terms by investing in the securities of an underlying fund, the Amundi MSCI World UCITS ETF; the MSCI World Index comprises large- and mid-cap equity securities across 23 developed market countries, covering approximately 85% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each country. Managed by Satrix Managers (RF) Pty Ltd, headquartered at Building 2, 4th Floor, 11 Alice Lane, Sandton, South Africa, the ETF was listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in August 2017 and provides investors with diversified exposure to global developed markets through a single rand-denominated instrument traded via stockbrokers or platforms like the Satrix Investment Plan and SatrixNOW. The fund targets retail and institutional investors seeking long-term capital growth, with a high risk profile due to offshore equity and currency exposure, and features a total expense ratio of 0.35%, no distributions, and daily pricing available on satrix.co.za. In September 2025, the ETF underwent significant operational changes, including a switch of its underlying fund from the iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF (IWDA) to the Amundi MSCI World UCITS ETF (MWRD) effective 22 September 2025, alongside a name change from Satrix MSCI World Feeder Portfolio/ETF to Satrix MSCI World ETF effective 15 October 2025, while retaining the same JSE code (STXWDM), ISIN, benchmark, and trading data. Satrix further reduced the total expense ratio from 0.35% to 0.25% effective 1 October 2025, enhancing cost efficiency for South African investors accessing global equities. In July 2025, the ETF achieved dual-listing on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) in Kenyan shillings, marking Satrix's market entry into Kenya and expanding accessibility for East African investors to this R21 billion+ asset vehicle. These developments reflect Satrix's strategic focus on cost optimization, operational enhancements, and African market expansion within the global equity ETF segment.
