Business
Sul América S.A. operates as a holding company in the Brazilian insurance sector, primarily through subsidiaries offering health and dental insurance; managed health and dental administrative services; health and well-being solutions; life and personal accident insurance; private pension plans; savings bonds; and asset management services. The company serves individual and corporate clients across Brazil via a distribution network of over 30,000 independent brokers and partnerships with financial institutions such as BV Financeira, HSBC, Santander, and Banco Safra. Founded in 1895 and headquartered at Rua Beatriz Larragoiti Lucas, 121, in Rio de Janeiro, with key offices in São Paulo, Sul América focuses on life and health insurance, property and casualty, pensions, and investments, targeting nationwide operations with more than 7 million customers. In a major strategic development, Sul América S.A. merged into Rede D'Or São Luiz S.A. in December 2022, unifying their shareholder bases and integrating Sul América's insurance operations—including SulAmérica Investimentos, managing approximately R$46 billion in assets—into Rede D'Or's healthcare ecosystem, with former Sul América shareholders receiving a 13.5% stake in the combined entity. The transaction, valued at around R$13 billion, received approvals from Brazil's antitrust authority CADE, SUSEP, and ANS, enhancing synergies in health plans, hospitals, dental services, life insurance, pensions, and asset management. Sul América now functions as a subsidiary of Rede D'Or São Luiz S.A., supporting expanded healthcare delivery and operational efficiencies across Brazil.
