Business
Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets Shares ETF (ASX:VGE) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the performance of the FTSE Emerging Markets All Cap China A Inclusion Index (also referred to as the FTSE Custom Emerging Markets All Cap China A Inclusion Index) in Australian dollars before fees, expenses, and taxes. Launched on November 18, 2013 and listed on the Australian Securities Exchange on November 21, 2013, the ETF is managed by Vanguard Investments Australia Ltd., a subsidiary of The Vanguard Group, Inc., and is domiciled in Australia with its head office in Melbourne, Victoria. As a feeder fund, VGE invests substantially all of its assets in the Vanguard FTSE Emerging Markets ETF (NYSE Arca: VWO), providing investors with passive exposure to a broad portfolio of large-, mid-, and small-cap stocks across emerging markets including China (with A-share inclusion), Taiwan, India, Brazil, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia; the underlying portfolio comprises approximately 5,649 holdings with top sectors in technology (23%), financial services (21%), and consumer cyclical (13%), and leading positions in companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Tencent Holdings, and Alibaba Group. The fund distributes dividends quarterly, with a trailing twelve-month yield of around 2.24% and an expense ratio of 0.48%, targeting retail and institutional investors seeking diversified emerging markets equity exposure without currency hedging. The ETF maintains a passive management style focused on replicating the index through full replication via its investment in VWO, with no leverage or inverse strategies employed. Geographically, it offers broad access to over 19 emerging market countries, emphasizing market-cap weighting and free-float adjustments. Recent operational updates include routine Product Disclosure Statement announcements, such as on September 15, 2023, alongside standard distribution timetables and FATCA/CRS tax residency reminders issued in October 2025, reflecting ongoing compliance and investor communication efforts by Vanguard Investments Australia. No major acquisitions, partnerships, funding rounds, or structural changes specific to VGE have been reported in the last 1-2 years, with fund flows showing modest net inflows amid stable assets under management of approximately AUD 1.2-1.3 billion. Vanguard Investments Australia continues to support the ETF through regular dividend reinvestment options and annual performance tracking against its benchmark.
