Business
Zambeef Products PLC is Zambia's largest integrated cold chain food products and agribusiness company, engaged in the primary production, processing, distribution, and retailing of beef, chicken, pork, milk, dairy products, eggs, fish, flour, stockfeed, and day-old chicks throughout Zambia, Nigeria, and Ghana. The company operates extensive cropping activities, cultivating wheat, maize, soya beans, and other grains at farms including Huntley, Chiawa, and Mpongwe to support its value chain; it manufactures scientifically formulated animal feeds under the Novatek brand, encompassing broiler feeds, layer feeds, pullet feeds, pig feeds, aqua feeds, dog food, free-range chicken feed, ruminant feeds, horse feeds, concentrates, and macropacks, with ISO 22000 certification and technical services such as nutrition advice; its Zambeef meat division supplies whole carcasses, choice cuts, ground beef, lamb, and goat in commercial, standard, choice, and super/prime grades from five abattoirs and three feedlots with capacity for 230,000 cattle annually; Zammilk produces pasteurised fresh milk, Sterimilk long-life milk, fresh cream, yoghurt varieties, cheese, butter, Mabisi Lacto, and milk-based drinks; Zamhatch supplies day-old chicks from state-of-the-art hatcheries, with over half sold to small-scale farmers; Zamchick manages broiler production up to 10.6 million birds and 31.2 million chicks yearly, offering fresh and processed poultry including export and HORECA specials; Master Pork provides fresh cuts, bacon, sausages, cold meats, and viennas under brands like Old Smoke House and Royal Cuisine from pig abattoirs handling 75,000 pigs annually; Zamflour mills cake flour, white and brown bread flour, all-purpose flour, and premix flour with ISO 22000 and Zambia Bureau of Standards certification; Zamloaf bakes white, brown, health, and milk bread; and Zamshu manufactures leather footwear including school shoes, casuals, safety boots, military boots, and sports footwear from Zamleather-tanned hides, holding ISO 20345 and ISO 2000 certifications. Founded in 1994 and headquartered at Plot 4970 Manda Road, Industrial Area, Lusaka, Zambia, the company runs 236 retail outlets, in-store butcheries in Shoprite supermarkets, fast food outlets, and transportation services with refrigerated trucks. Recent developments include a progressing $100 million medium-term expansion program focused on cropping, milling, stockfeed, dairy, and poultry to enhance capacity and efficiencies; strong half-year results to March 31, 2025, with revenue up 12.5% to ZMW 3.8 billion and operating profit up 28% through revenue management and cost controls amid economic challenges; recognition as Zambia Revenue Authority's top agriculture sector taxpayer for 2025; and a full-year trading update issued in November 2025.
