- Macquarie initiates coverage on SPX Technologies (SPCX) (SPCX) with an Outperform rating and a $250 price target, signaling strong bullish sentiment.
- The analyst highlights the company's diversified industrial technology portfolio and potential for margin expansion.
- SPCX shares rose 2.3% in early trading following the announcement.
Macquarie analysts have begun coverage of SPX Technologies, assigning an Outperform rating and a 12-month price target of $250, implying roughly 15% upside from current levels. In a note to clients, the brokerage cited the company's exposure to secular growth trends in automation and energy transition, as well as its potential for earnings acceleration through operational improvements.
"SPX Technologies has built a strong portfolio of niche industrial technology businesses with leadership positions in attractive end markets," the analyst wrote. "We see multiple catalysts ahead, including new product cycles and cost initiatives that should drive margin expansion over the next several quarters."
The initiation comes amid broader investor interest in industrial technology stocks, which have benefited from increased capital spending on automation and reshoring efforts. SPCX, formerly part of SPX Corporation, has undergone a strategic transformation to focus on higher-growth, higher-margin segments such as detection and measurement equipment, as well as engineered solutions for HVAC and other industrial applications.
Shares of SPCX traded up 2.3% to $220.50 in early trading on Thursday, reflecting positive investor reaction to the bullish call. The company's stock has gained about 12% year-to-date, largely in line with the broader market.
Macquarie's price target is based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation, applying multiples of 15-18x to its various business units' estimated 2025 EBITDA. The analyst emphasized that SPX Technologies is well-positioned to benefit from tailwinds in its end markets, including increased demand for safety and monitoring systems in industrial settings.
A spokesperson for SPX Technologies did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the analyst's initiation.
Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the price target implied a 20% upside. It has been updated to reflect the correct percentage.
