Business
Dongsung Chemical Co., Ltd. is a South Korea-based specialized chemical company primarily engaged in the manufacturing and sale of polyurethane systems and melamine foam under the brand VIXUM. The company offers a broad product portfolio including polyurethane resins for shoes and processing, molding adhesives, automobile TPU products for automotive, footwear, construction and leisure sectors; melamine foams; industrial and functional polyurethane resins; paints; bioplastics; organic peroxides; and functional solvents. It also operates in trading isoparaffine, solvents and monomers, urethane raw materials, and synthetic resins. Additionally, Dongsung supplies passenger car and commercial vehicle parts, heavy machinery components, shipbuilding and marine materials including ultra-low temperature cold insulators, tank and pipe insulation products, and LNG fuel tanks. The company serves markets in South Korea and internationally, including countries such as the USA, China, Germany, India, and Vietnam. Founded in 1959, Dongsung Chemical is headquartered in South Korea. In recent major developments, Dongsung Chemical completed the divestiture of its subsidiary Dongsung TCS Co., Ltd. in April 2024 to SG Private Equity Co., Ltd. for KRW 31.6 billion, signaling a strategic move to refocus its business portfolio. Following this, the company has invested approximately KRW 18 billion to expand its organic peroxide production and reduce reliance on petrochemical facilities, reflecting a strategic shift away from high carbon emission and low profitability petrochemical business toward higher growth specialty chemicals. This transition includes scaling down over 70% of petrochemical facilities at the Yeosu site by 2023 and focusing on environmentally friendly green chemical products aligned with sustainability goals. Dongsung Chemical also recently announced a collaboration with Cosmax, a global cosmetics ODM, extending its reach into specialized chemical solutions for the cosmetics industry. The company continues to leverage its expertise in polymerization initiators and specialty chemicals as part of its growth strategy in diverse sectors. Overall, Dongsung Chemical operates within the chemicals industry, focusing on polymers, fine chemicals, composites, and biohealth sectors, targeting automotive, construction, energy, consumer, and healthcare industries globally. The company emphasizes sustainability and innovation as it expands its product lines and operational capabilities internationally.
