Business
Medtronic plc develops, manufactures, and sells device-based medical therapies to healthcare systems, physicians, clinicians, and patients worldwide. The company operates through four main segments: Cardiovascular Portfolio, including cardiac rhythm management devices, heart failure products, structural heart and aortic products, and coronary and peripheral vascular products; Neuroscience Portfolio, encompassing cranial and spinal technologies, neuromodulation therapies such as deep brain stimulation and spinal cord stimulation, and surgical technologies; Medical Surgical Portfolio, featuring advanced surgical technologies, endoscopy products, ear, nose, and throat devices, and pelvic health solutions; and Diabetes Operating Unit, offering insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring systems, smart insulin pens, and consumables. Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, with operational headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Medtronic serves customers in more than 150 countries and employs over 95,000 people. Recent developments include the appointment of Thierry Piéton as Chief Financial Officer effective March 2025, the launch of BrainSense Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation as the world's first closed-loop DBS system, a new rechargeable neurostimulator in the Percept family, board additions of John Groetelaars and Bill Jellison with formation of Growth and Operating committees, FDA approval and Medicare coverage for the Symplicity renal denervation procedure for hypertension, and plans to spin off its diabetes business as MiniMed.
