Business
Aptose Biosciences Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company specializing in the discovery and development of precision medicines to address unmet medical needs in oncology, with a primary focus on hematologic malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL). The company’s core products include small molecule cancer therapeutics designed for potent single-agent activity and to enhance the efficacy of existing anti-cancer therapies without overlapping toxicities. Key drug candidates in its pipeline are tuspetinib (HM43239), an oral myeloid kinase inhibitor developed for relapsed or refractory AML; luxeptinib, targeted for B-cell malignancies and resistant or refractory AML; and APTO-253, a small molecule therapeutic that inhibits MYC oncogene expression in solid and hematologic tumors. Aptose's products aim to provide mutation-agnostic efficacy thereby addressing diverse patient populations in oncology. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Aptose operates primarily in North America, advancing its therapeutics through clinical trials and collaborations. In recent years, the company has initiated and advanced the TUSCANY Phase 1/2 trial of a tuspetinib-based triplet therapy combining tuspetinib with venetoclax and azacitidine for frontline treatment of newly diagnosed AML patients, demonstrating promising clinical responses including complete remissions in difficult-to-treat AML subsets such as TP53-mutated and FLT3-wildtype patients. Aptose has also entered a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) MyeloMATCH program to advance development of tuspetinib in AML and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Significant recent corporate developments include securing approximately $37 million in financing in 2024 to support ongoing clinical programs, completing a $10 million loan from Hanmi Pharmaceutical as an advance on collaboration, executing a debt conversion agreement with Hanmi, and continuing negotiations for a co-development partnership to accelerate tuspetinib's clinical development. These efforts reflect a strategic emphasis on advancing tuspetinib-based therapies as well as expanding Aptose’s oncology portfolio through targeted therapeutic innovation. The company maintains its focus on developing novel cancer treatments that improve patient outcomes across a broad spectrum of hematologic malignancies.
