Cochlear Limited (ASX:COH) develops, manufactures and markets implantable hearing solutions worldwide, including cochlear implants, bone conduction systems and associated sound processors; the company provides the Cochlear Nucleus System, Baha System, Osia System, Kanso 3 Sound Processor, sound processor upgrades, accessories and clinical support software such as Custom Sound Pro Fitting Software and Nucleus SmartNav System. Cochlear holds approximately 60% global market share in cochlear implants and advances bimodal hearing solutions combining implants with hearing aids. Founded in 1981 and headquartered at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, the company operates across more than 180 countries with key revenue contributions from the Americas (49%), Europe, Middle East and Africa (35%), and Asia-Pacific (16%), employing over 5,000 people. Recent developments include the May 2024 acquisition of Oticon Medical's cochlear implant business from Demant for A$170 million, expanding its implant portfolio and customer base by over 20,000 patients; the July 2025 launch of the world's first smart cochlear implant, the Nucleus Nexa System, featuring upgradeable firmware, machine learning and AI integration; and the March 2025 expansion of its R&D partnership with GN through the Smart Hearing Alliance to accelerate AI, deep neural networks and connectivity innovations for integrated hearing solutions.
