Founded in 1959 as Trinity Laboratories and renamed in 1971, Torrent Pharmaceuticals is headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, and operates in over 50 countries including the US, Germany, Brazil, Europe and emerging markets, with subsidiaries in 15 countries. In June 2025, Torrent Pharmaceuticals announced the acquisition of a 46.39% controlling stake in J.B. Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals from KKR for INR 11,917 crores at INR 1,600 per share, followed by a mandatory open offer and proposed merger to strengthen its Indian pharmaceutical market position, enter ophthalmology, nephrology and CDMO segments, and elevate its domestic Rx ranking to fourth with complementary portfolios in chronic therapies. Recent product launches include the novel PCAB Vonoprazan under Kabvie in June 2024, Saroglitazar Magnesium as Vorxarr in 2025, and expansions into Sodium Alginate, Imeglimin, Brivaracetam SR and digestive enzymes; it also formed a strategic alliance with Zydus Lifesciences for gastroenterology including NASH and NAFLD. Prior acquisitions such as Curatio in 2022, Unichem's Indian business in 2017 and Elder Pharma in 2014 have bolstered its chronic therapy dominance and international footprint.
