Business
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. operates as North America's largest flat-rolled steel producer and iron ore pellet supplier, primarily serving the automotive, infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, appliance, and energy industries. The company manufactures custom-made iron ore pellets, hot briquetted iron, flat-rolled carbon, stainless, electrical, plate, and tinplate steel products; long steel products; carbon and stainless steel tubing; and provides hot and cold stamping, tooling, and downstream finishing services. Vertically integrated from iron ore mining and pelletizing through steelmaking, ferrous scrap processing, and recycling, Cleveland-Cliffs conducts operations across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1847 and headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, the company employs approximately 30,000 people and maintains a strategic focus on value-added sheet products, particularly automotive-grade steel, backed by best-in-class customer service and delivery performance. In recent developments, Cleveland-Cliffs entered a transformative memorandum of understanding with POSCO Holdings Inc., Korea's largest steelmaker, on September 17, 2025, to deepen industrial cooperation under the new U.S.-Korea trade agreement, with POSCO potentially investing up to $1.2 billion for an equity stake and a definitive agreement expected in late 2025 or early 2026. The company also announced a definitive agreement in July 2024 to acquire Stelco Holdings Inc., a Canadian blast furnace steel producer, for approximately $2.5 billion, expanding its North American footprint, doubling flat-rolled spot market exposure, and adding capabilities in construction and industrial sectors with synergies in procurement and overhead.
