Business
Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE) operates global markets for trading, clearing, and data services across major asset classes, including equities, derivatives, fixed income, commodities, and mortgage technology. The company, founded in 2000 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, conducts operations in the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Singapore, India, Israel, Australia, and other regions through three primary segments: Exchanges, Fixed Income and Data Services, and Mortgage Technology. The Exchanges segment provides regulated marketplace technology for listing, trading, and clearing derivatives contracts and financial securities such as futures and options on agriculture, financials, crude oil and refined products, electricity, natural gas and liquids, UK natural gas, and other commodities; over-the-counter instruments in crude oil, natural gas, and electricity; equity markets including the New York Stock Exchange; and related data and connectivity services. The Fixed Income and Data Services segment delivers fixed income pricing, reference data, indices, analytics, execution services, global credit default swaps clearing, and multi-asset class data delivery technology. The Mortgage Technology segment offers a digital platform with workflow tools for the U.S. residential mortgage lifecycle, from application and closing through servicing and secondary markets. ICE serves financial institutions, corporations, government entities, asset managers, commercial hedging firms, risk managers, corporate issuers, and individual investors. Recent developments include a strategic investment of up to $2 billion in prediction market platform Polymarket at an $8 billion valuation in October 2025, positioning ICE as distributor of its event-driven data and exploring tokenization initiatives; the acquisition of the American Financial Exchange (AFX) in January 2025 to enhance interbank lending for U.S. regional and community banks, incorporating the AMERIBOR benchmark; a partnership with InnovestX Securities in late 2025 to deploy ICE's Portfolio Analytics platform for risk management and analysis; and integration of ICE's Paragon Connect into Bright MLS's technology ecosystem.
