Business
Enbridge Inc. operates as a leading North American energy infrastructure company, primarily engaged in the transportation, distribution and generation of energy through its extensive pipeline networks, utilities and renewable projects. The company maintains five core business segments: Liquids Pipelines, which encompasses North America's longest crude oil and liquids transportation system spanning approximately 18,085 miles of active pipe transporting about 3 million barrels per day; Gas Transmission and Midstream, featuring over 38,375 kilometers of natural gas pipelines delivering roughly 16.2 billion cubic feet per day across Canada, the United States and Mexico; Gas Distribution and Storage, including North America's largest natural gas utility serving millions of customers following acquisitions of U.S. utilities; Renewable Power Generation, with 38 wind, solar, geothermal and waste heat recovery projects generating electricity for about 1.9 million homes; and Energy Services, providing commodity marketing, logistics and related offerings such as the Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center, the largest U.S. crude oil export terminal by volume. Enbridge conducts operations throughout Canada and the United States, with select activities in Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, targeting producers, refiners, utilities, industrial customers, data centers and power generators. Founded in 1949 as Interprovincial Pipe Line Company and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the company rebranded to Enbridge Inc. in 1998 and has expanded through key historical mergers including Spectra Energy in 2017. Recent developments include the completion of U.S. utility acquisitions such as Public Service Company of North Carolina in October 2024 and Questar Gas in June 2024; the formation of a joint venture in March 2024 with WhiteWater/I Squared Capital and MPLX LP for Permian Basin gas infrastructure; sanctioning of the 600-megawatt Clear Fork Solar project in Texas in July 2025 under long-term contract with Meta Platforms; final investment decisions on gas transmission expansions like the Mainline Optimization Phase 1 in November 2025 and two additional projects in September 2025; a 3% dividend increase announced for 2026 in December 2025; and equity partnerships with First Nations on its B.C. natural gas pipeline system in May 2025.
