In June 2025, United States Steel Corporation finalizes its acquisition by Nippon Steel Corporation for $14.9 billion under a U.S. government-approved National Security Agreement that includes a golden share granting presidential oversight on key decisions, mandates $14 billion in investments by 2028 including upgrades to Pennsylvania facilities, requires U.S. citizenship for the CEO and board majority, ensures headquarters retention in Pittsburgh, and prohibits production or job offshoring while committing to domestic capacity maintenance and trade protections.
