Business
ABO Energy GmbH & Co. KGaA develops, constructs, and sells renewable energy projects worldwide, including wind farms, solar parks, battery storage systems, and hydrogen initiatives; it provides turnkey solutions covering site assessment, planning, engineering, permitting, financing, construction supervision, grid connection, operational management, technical and commercial management, maintenance, repowering, and services such as the electronic locking system ABO Lock. The company serves energy suppliers, cooperatives, institutional investors, and operators like Rheinenergie, with a portfolio exceeding 23 gigawatts under development and over 2.5 gigawatts connected to the grid across more than 900 facilities. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, ABO Energy operates in 16 countries on four continents, including subsidiaries in France, Finland, Poland, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, South Africa, Tunisia, Tanzania, and the Netherlands. In July 2024, the company changed its name from ABO Wind AG and converted its legal structure from AG to KGaA to reflect its expanded focus beyond wind energy. Recent developments include the November 2025 completion of its largest-ever portfolio sale, a 4.4-gigawatt Finnish wind project package to Fortum for approximately EUR 40 million plus earn-outs; a September 2025 project development partnership with Ålandsbanken Wind Power Fund Non-UCITS for four wind projects in Finland; the launch of its first battery storage project and initial green hydrogen initiatives in Finland in 2025; and earlier agreements such as a 2023 partnership with Repsol Renovables for 250 megawatts of wind and solar in Spain.
