Business
Auckland International Airport Limited (AIA.AX) owns and operates New Zealand's largest and busiest airport, serving as the principal international gateway handling over 18.7 million passengers annually; it provides aeronautical services facilitating aircraft, passenger, and cargo movements including runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals, and utility infrastructure; retail and carparking services encompassing terminal retailer support, parking facilities for passengers, visitors, and staff, and duty-free operations transitioning to a single operator with Lagardère; and property leasing of airport land for cargo buildings, hangars, logistics facilities, distribution warehouses, and stand-alone investments such as the Mānawa Bay outlet mall. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Manukau, New Zealand, derives revenue across these three core segments while targeting domestic and international airlines, travelers, retailers, and logistics firms primarily within New Zealand. In September 2024, Auckland Airport raised NZ$1.4 billion through an institutional placement and retail offer to fund its NZ$6.6 billion multi-year infrastructure program, including a NZ$2.2 billion domestic terminal upgrade contracted to Hawkins Construction for completion by 2029, airfield and runway enhancements to support 27.7 million passengers by 2032, and initiatives like retail footprint expansion, transport refinements, and development of 150 hectares of surplus land including cold storage facilities; FY25 results showed non-aeronautical revenues up 10% to NZ$556 million with property rentals rising 13% to NZ$203 million, alongside increased air cargo volumes such as 34% growth in fresh produce exports over summer 2024-2025.
