Business
Atlas Pearls Ltd (ASX:ATP) produces and distributes white and silver South Sea pearls from operations in Indonesia and sales channels in Australia, Japan, Asia, and Europe; the company owns and operates eight pearl farms, hatcheries, and nurseries utilizing Pinctada maxima oysters, harvesting 500,000-620,000 pearls annually, manufactures pearl jewelry including strands, matched pairs, bracelets, and sets, and sells loose pearls via hybrid auctions in Kobe and Bali, online wholesale portals, private sales, and farm-based retail showrooms. It also pursues value-added processing for wholesale markets and diversification into complementary aquaculture such as lobster and abalone. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Subiaco, Western Australia, Atlas Pearls Ltd employs over 1,200 people primarily in remote Indonesian regions including North Bali, West Lembata, Banyu Biru, Alyui Bay, Sumba, and others; the company derives most revenue from Australia but expanded wholesale relationships in Asia and Europe through trade shows. Recent developments include implementation of a FY30 strategic roadmap targeting 30-50% production growth by FY30 via joint ventures with juvenile oyster suppliers, organic farm expansions at multiple sites including a new Sumba trial, and third-party oyster purchases exceeding 300,000 units to offset nursery mortalities; refurbishment and reopening of the flagship North Bali retail showroom in March FY25; appointment of a Chief Innovation Officer in June 2024 and a dedicated sustainability role in late FY25 with half-yearly GRI-aligned reporting; adoption of a 50% payout dividend policy in October 2024 with FY25 dividends totaling 2.4 cents per share; leadership changes featuring José Martins as Chairman following Geoff Newman's retirement in late 2024 and key management appointments; restructuring of pearl sales flow to a Indonesia-focused waterfall model enhancing local value-add and grading utilization; cessation of consolidation for PT Cayaha Bali effective July 2024; and ongoing genetic improvement sampling over 4,500 oysters plus advanced data analytics integration for operations and forecasting.
