Business
WisdomTree Brent Crude Oil (BRNG.L) is a fully collateralised, UCITS eligible exchange traded commodity (ETC) issued by WisdomTree Commodity Securities Limited that provides investors with total return exposure to Brent crude oil futures contracts by synthetically replicating the Bloomberg Commodity Brent Crude Subindex 4W Total Return (BCOMCO4T). The ETC tracks the performance of continuously rolled Brent crude oil futures contracts included in the Bloomberg Commodity Index through fully funded collateralised swaps with counterparties including Citigroup Global Markets Limited and Merrill Lynch International, while generating collateral yield from interest on segregated assets primarily consisting of short-term government bonds denominated in USD and EUR from issuers in the United States, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Finland. It offers no physical delivery of the underlying commodity, eliminating investor needs for storage, insurance, or delivery management, and trades on multiple exchanges such as the London Stock Exchange with ISIN JE00B78CGV99, a management expense ratio of 0.49%, and an annual swap rate of 0.45%. The product targets institutional and retail investors seeking commodity exposure, particularly in the energy sector, without direct futures trading complexities such as roll yield impacts from contango or backwardation. Launched on January 9, 2012, and domiciled in Jersey under Jersey law as an uncertificated, registered, limited recourse debt security, it operates across European markets including the UK, Germany, and Italy, with reporting status under the UK Financial Conduct Authority. WisdomTree Commodity Securities Limited, the issuer and part of the WisdomTree group headquartered in New York, maintains a broad suite of commodity ETCs covering energy products like WTI crude oil variants alongside Brent crude offerings. In June 2025, WisdomTree Multi Asset Issuer Public Limited Company, an affiliated entity, announced plans to reduce the principal amount of related Brent Crude Oil ETP securities including leveraged and short variants from $0.114 to $0.0114 following a Threshold Event triggered by prices falling below 500% of principal, with a security holder vote held on July 11, 2025, to avert compulsory redemption; this adjustment preserved trading prices, holdings value, and redemption rights without dilution. Concurrently, WisdomTree has driven broader strategic expansions including record assets under management reaching $139 billion by November 2025 with $800 million monthly net inflows across commodities, and the acquisition of Ceres Partners for U.S. farmland private assets exposure, alongside infrastructure enhancements like BNY Mellon banking-as-a-service for digital assets and tokenized real-world assets.
