Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA.AX) operates as Australia's largest integrated financial services provider, delivering retail, premium, business, and institutional banking; funds management; superannuation; insurance; investment and sharebroking products; and broking services to approximately 15.9 million customers through segments including Retail Banking Services, Business Banking, Institutional Banking and Markets, New Zealand via subsidiary ASB Bank Limited, and Corporate Center. Founded in 1911 under the Commonwealth Bank Act and commencing operations in 1912, the bank maintains headquarters in Sydney, Australia, with principal operations across Australia and New Zealand, branches in Asia, a presence in Europe since 1913, and additional activities in the United States and United Kingdom serving Australian, New Zealand, and regional clients. Core offerings encompass transaction and savings accounts, home loans, credit cards, personal loans, business lending, corporate and institutional financing, wealth management solutions, and digital banking platforms via its CommBank app and online services. In recent developments, CBA announces a multi-year strategic partnership with OpenAI in August 2025 to deploy advanced generative AI for enhanced scam detection, fraud prevention, and personalized customer services as OpenAI's strategic banking partner in Australia; enters an agreement in November 2024 for LGT Group to acquire its Commonwealth Private Advice personal wealth advisory business, with completion expected by mid-2025 to streamline focus on core banking; and divests its remaining 4.4% stake in Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB) to further concentrate on primary markets.
