Business
Clean Seas Seafood Limited (ASX:CSS), founded in 2000 and headquartered at 7 Frederick Road, Royal Park, South Australia, operates as an integrated aquaculture company specializing in the full-cycle breeding, propagation, hatchery production, grow-out farming, harvesting, processing, and global marketing of premium Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi), also known as Spencer Gulf Hiramasa or Hiramasa Kingfish; the company produces and sells fingerlings to support its operations and external growers, leveraging advanced hatchery facilities in Arno Bay and open-water sea pens off Port Lincoln in South Australia's Spencer Gulf for year-round supply of high-quality, sustainably farmed fish renowned for firm texture, rich flavor, and omega-3 content to premium markets including restaurants, wholesalers, and retailers in Australia, Europe, North America, and Asia. Clean Seas maintains operations exclusively in Australia, focusing on environmentally responsible practices with certifications such as ASC for sustainable aquaculture, GMO-free feeds mimicking natural diets, and wild-caught broodstock for genetic purity, positioning it as the largest producer of farmed Yellowtail Kingfish outside Japan. In a major strategic development, Yumbah Aquaculture Ltd completed its acquisition of 100% of Clean Seas in July 2025 through a court-approved scheme of arrangement, valuing the deal at approximately AUD 29.3 million with shareholders receiving AUD 0.14 cash per share or equivalent unlisted Yumbah scrip; the merger integrates Clean Seas' finfish expertise with Yumbah's shellfish portfolio of abalone, oysters, and mussels across South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales, enhancing operational scale, market reach, and sustainable seafood production capabilities, followed by Clean Seas' delisting from the ASX.
