Business
International Distribution Services Limited (IDS) is a British postal, parcel, and courier services company that operates Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide, and General Logistics Systems (GLS); Royal Mail provides universal postal services including one-price-goes-anywhere letter and parcel delivery in the UK, press office services, and specialist offerings such as same-day delivery; Parcelforce Worldwide focuses on domestic and international express parcel services; GLS delivers ground-based parcels across Europe, the western United States, and Canada with a network exceeding 110,000 out-of-home access points including over 20,000 lockers; additional services encompass collection, sorting, returns management, logistics, freight, and access operator partnerships for SMEs, large enterprises, consumers, and retailers. Founded in 2013 as a holding company for Royal Mail with origins dating to 1516, IDS is headquartered at 185 Farringdon Road, London, EC1A 1AA, England, and conducts operations in the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. In recent developments, IDS completed its acquisition by Czech-based EP Group, controlled by Daniel Křetínský, in 2025 following shareholder approval in April and regulatory clearances; the company acquired a 49% stake in Collect+ to bolster its multi-channel parcel strategy; Royal Mail expanded out-of-home delivery locations by nearly 70% to around 24,000 including branded lockers, launched in 2025, while Ofcom approved Universal Service reforms in July 2025; GLS enhanced automation at key hubs in France and Germany and more than doubled its locker network; IDS reported a return to profit at Royal Mail for the first time since 2022 alongside positive half-year results for the period ended 28 September 2025.
