- The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) is India's largest hospitality company engaged in operating and managing a diversified portfolio of hotels, resorts, private escapes, palaces, spas, and in-flight catering services. Its core brands include Taj, the iconic luxury hotel brand; SeleQtions, a collection of boutique and heritage hotels; Vivanta, upscale hotels; Gateway, full-service hotels; Ginger, a lean luxe segment catering to midscale travelers; Tree of Life, private resorts; and TajSATS, which offers premium air catering services. IHCL operates over 570 hotels with a presence spanning India, several international locations across four continents, 12 countries, and more than 150 cities. The company also offers culinary experiences and hospitality services supporting local communities and heritage preservation. Founded in 1903 and headquartered in Mumbai, IHCL continues to expand its brandscape through strategic acquisitions and partnerships.
In the last 1-2 years, IHCL has pursued an asset-light growth strategy, marked by major expansions and acquisitions. Most notably, IHCL's wholly owned subsidiary, Roots Corporation Limited, completed the acquisition of majority stakes in Pride Hospitality Private Limited and ANK Hotels Private Limited, adding over 130 midscale hotels under these portfolios. IHCL entered into a strategic partnership with Brij Hospitality Private Limited, adding 19 hotels to its distribution network. This expanded IHCL’s mid-market presence and doubled its portfolio in this segment to over 240 hotels. IHCL also acquired a majority stake in Clarks Hotels & Resorts, enhancing its footprint in India’s luxury and boutique hotel markets. In addition, IHCL completed renovations of flagship properties such as Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Taj Palace, New Delhi, and The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. The company recorded robust growth in FY2025-26 with numerous hotel signings and openings, bringing its portfolio to over 570 hotels and maintaining a strong balance sheet with significant cash reserves. These strategic moves align with IHCL’s “Accelerate 2030” roadmap aimed at unlocking India’s tourism potential and strengthening its leadership across multiple hospitality segments.
