Business
iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of large-capitalization U.S. equities, specifically the S&P 500 Index, which measures the performance of the large-cap sector of the U.S. equity market. The fund employs a representative sampling technique to invest in growth and value stocks of large-cap companies across diversified sectors, including securities selected by the S&P Committee; it generally invests at least 80% of its assets in the component securities of the underlying index and may invest up to 20% in certain futures, options, swap contracts, cash equivalents, and money market funds. Launched on May 15, 2000, and domiciled in the United States, IVV is issued and managed by BlackRock iShares under BlackRock Fund Advisors, with a low expense ratio of 0.03% and primary trading on NYSE Arca. The ETF targets institutional and retail investors seeking broad U.S. large-cap equity exposure, with assets under management exceeding $687 billion as of late 2025. In recent developments, BlackRock expanded its outcome-based product suite in October 2025 by launching four new Large Cap 10% Target Buffer ETFs (TEND, TENM, TENJ, and others) that aim to track the share price return of IVV up to an approximate cap while providing a 10% buffer against losses over a 12-month outcome period; the firm also introduced its first laddered buffer ETFs through enhancements to existing iShares Large Cap Moderate Buffer and Deep Buffer ETFs, all linked to IVV's performance. These launches reflect BlackRock's strategic push into defined-outcome ETFs amid growing investor demand for equity-like returns with downside protection. IVV itself maintains its core passive strategy without structural changes, though it became eligible for BlackRock's Voting Choice program, empowering more investors in proxy voting, and continues to distribute quarterly dividends with ex-dividend dates through 2025. The fund operates primarily in the U.S. market, with global accessibility through exchanges and authorized participants for creation/redemption units.
