Business
JPMorgan European Growth & Income plc is a UK-listed closed-end investment trust that invests primarily in equities of Continental European companies to achieve long-term capital growth and a rising share price through carefully controlled risks. The trust provides exposure to a diversified portfolio across sectors including financial services (approximately 24%), industrials (23%), healthcare (14%), consumer cyclical (10%), technology (9%), and others; key holdings encompass ASML Holding NV, Novartis AG, Siemens AG, UniCredit SpA, and Safran SA, with geographic focus on Germany (24%), France (22%), Switzerland (18%), Netherlands (12%), Italy (9%), and additional allocations to Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Austria, and Ireland. It targets growth and value stocks selected based on principles of quality, valuation, and operational momentum, benchmarked against the MSCI Europe ex UK Total Return Index, and pays quarterly dividends with a recent yield around 3.6% while maintaining a policy to distribute 4% of prior year-end NAV. Founded in 1929 and domiciled in the United Kingdom with headquarters in London, the trust is managed by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. In recent developments, the trust reported strong half-year performance to September 30, 2025, with net asset total return of 14.2% outperforming its benchmark by 3.5 percentage points and ranking as the top performer in its AIC sector; portfolio managers have shifted emphasis toward domestically oriented mid- and lower large-cap companies benefiting from European economic improvements, such as infrastructure and defense-related industrials like Bilfinger SE, while reducing exposure to certain global mega-caps, contributing to five-year NAV total returns of 92% ahead of the benchmark's 59%; it declared a flat interim dividend of 2.4 pence per share and became a FTSE 250 constituent in March 2025.
