BlackRock LifePath Index 2045 Fund (LIHKX) is a target-date mutual fund managed by BlackRock, Inc. that provides retirement outcomes based on quantitatively measured risk through a predetermined glide path that gradually shifts asset allocations toward more conservative investments as the target retirement date of 2045 approaches. The Fund invests in a global mix of broad, diversified index-based building blocks, including equity index funds such as BlackRock Russell 1000 Index Fund (approximately 47%), iShares Core MSCI Total International Stock ETF (approximately 32%), BlackRock Small Cap Index Fund (approximately 3%), and iShares FTSE NAREIT All Equity REIT Index Fund (approximately 4%); fixed-income index funds such as iShares U.S. Securitized Bond Index Fund (approximately 4%), iShares U.S. Intermediate Government Bond Index Fund (approximately 3%), iShares U.S. Long Credit Bond Index Fund (approximately 3%), iShares U.S. Intermediate Credit Bond Index Fund (approximately 2%), and iShares U.S. Long Government Bond Index Fund (approximately 2%); and other holdings like iShares Global Infrastructure ETF (approximately 0.3%). It offers low-cost, transparent access to these asset classes for institutional and retirement plan investors, with assets under management exceeding $9.6 billion, an expense ratio of 0.06%, and a focus on U.S. stocks (around 48%), non-U.S. stocks (around 32%), U.S. bonds (around 13%), and smaller allocations to cash, non-U.S. bonds, and other assets. Launched on May 31, 2011, the Fund is domiciled in the United States and headquartered with BlackRock in New York. It operates globally through its underlying ETFs and index funds, targeting investors planning retirement around 2045, such as participants in defined contribution plans. In January 2025, BlackRock reshuffled the portfolio management team for the LifePath Index series, including LIHKX, by adding Michael Pensky from the global tactical asset allocation team and Peter Tsang from the multi-asset strategies and solutions team, while removing Lisa O'Connor, Paul Whitehead, and Greg Savage due to updated firm policies on information sharing between index and nonindex teams; this change reflects closer collaboration with the LifePath Dynamic series and an expanded role for tactical allocation research, with Morningstar maintaining its ratings unchanged. The Fund continues to adjust allocations periodically based on market conditions, glide path progression, and risk-return assessments, maintaining low turnover at 18% and top holdings comprising over 99% of the portfolio. No recent acquisitions, funding rounds, or new product launches specific to LIHKX were reported, with ongoing emphasis on cost-effective index implementation.
