Business
Lords Group Trading PLC is a United Kingdom-based specialist distributor of building materials, plumbing, heating, and do-it-yourself (DIY) goods. The company operates through three primary divisions: Merchanting, Plumbing and Heating, and Digital. The Merchanting division supplies a wide range of building materials and DIY products both in the 'light side' (including timber and building materials) and 'heavy side' (covering civils and landscaping) through a network of approximately 32 branches across the UK. The Plumbing and Heating division distributes specialist plumbing and heating products to independent merchants, installers, and the general public via over 16 locations, offering a multi-channel service with nationwide next-day delivery. The Digital division incorporates the company's e-commerce and online platform capabilities, serving both tradespeople and retail customers. Founded over 40 years ago as a family business with its first retail unit in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, Lords Group Trading has expanded to operate from 48 sites across the UK, primarily targeting local tradesmen, small to medium-sized plumbing and heating merchants, and construction companies. The Group focuses on the Repairs, Maintenance, and Improvement (RMI) market and serves both trade and retail customers. In the last two years, Lords Group Trading has undertaken significant strategic actions to strengthen its market position and financial health. Notably, in June 2025, the company acquired the trade and assets of CMO Group Limited, the UK’s leading online-only retailer of construction products, through a pre-pack administration process. This acquisition integrates CMO’s strong digital platform and e-commerce expertise with Lords’ traditional merchanting infrastructure, expanding its digital capabilities and product reach. In addition, Lords has opened three new Merchanting branches in 2025, contributing to revenue growth. The Group also significantly enhanced its balance sheet by completing property sale and leaseback transactions, generating approximately £17 million in proceeds and reducing net debt by £15.4 million to £20.9 million as of mid-2025. These initiatives underpin Lords’ strategy to scale the business through organic growth and selective acquisitions while focusing on operational excellence and customer service. Lords Group Trading continues to emphasize growth, diversification, and digital innovation while maintaining a robust presence in the UK construction materials distribution industry. Its product portfolio includes a comprehensive range of building, plumbing, heating, and DIY goods, supported by an expanding branch network and a growing digital presence. The company is headquartered in the United Kingdom and remains focused on serving its core UK markets through enhanced service delivery and strategic expansion.
