Business
Mandarin Oriental International Limited, a subsidiary of Jardine Strategic Limited and member of the Jardine Matheson Group, owns and operates luxury hotels, resorts and residences worldwide; provides hotel and residences branding and management services; and engages in property development activities. The company, founded in 1963 and incorporated in Bermuda with headquarters in Quarry Bay, Hong Kong, manages operations across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas, including 44 hotels, 12 residences and 26 exceptional homes in 27 countries and territories, with numerous projects under development targeting high-end leisure and business travelers. Its portfolio features deluxe and first-class properties renowned for Asian heritage-inspired design, legendary service, fine dining with multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, spas and wellness facilities. In recent developments, Jardine Matheson, the majority shareholder, announced in October 2025 a $4.2 billion take-private transaction for Mandarin Oriental at a 51% premium to the 60-day volume-weighted average price, valuing the company at approximately $850,000 per key and positioning it for enhanced operational control, brand repositioning and expansion without public market pressures. The group continues accelerated growth with new openings such as Mandarin Oriental Mayfair in London and Muscat in Oman in 2024, a Beijing property later that year, and upcoming projects including a Rome hotel in 2026 alongside expansions in Italy's Cortina and Porto Cervo, strengthening its European footprint to five properties.
