Business
Newron Pharmaceuticals S.p.A. (NWRN.SW) develops novel therapies for patients with diseases of the central nervous system and pain; its commercialized product Xadago (safinamide), a once-daily oral add-on therapy for Parkinson's disease with a unique dual mechanism of action, is marketed through partnerships including Zambon in the EU and US, and Supernus in the US; pipeline candidates include evenamide, a first-in-class add-on therapy targeting voltage-gated sodium channels for treatment-resistant schizophrenia and patients with positive symptoms inadequately controlled by antipsychotics; ralfinamide for neuropathic pain; and earlier-stage assets targeting CNS and rare diseases. The company operates primarily in Europe, with a subsidiary in Morristown, New Jersey, USA, and partners extending reach to Japan, South Korea, and Asia. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Bresso, near Milan, Italy, Newron lists on the SIX Swiss Exchange under NWRN and on the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange under NP5.DE. Recent developments include regulatory approval for the pivotal Phase III ENIGMA-TRS program for evenamide, with enrollment initiated in ENIGMA-TRS 1 in 2025 and topline results expected in Q4 2026; licensing agreement with Myung In Pharm in January 2025 for evenamide development, production, and commercialization in South Korea, including contribution of 10% of ENIGMA-TRS 1 patients and associated costs; prior licensing deal in December 2024 with EA Pharma (Eisai subsidiary) for evenamide in Japan and select Asian countries, yielding an EUR 44 million upfront payment received in H1 2025; strengthened cash position to EUR 43.2 million at H1 2025 end, funding operations into late 2026; and ongoing pursuit of additional global partnerships for evenamide alongside new patent filings to extend intellectual property protection.
