The fund normally invests at least 90% of its total assets in common stocks comprising the index, which consists of approximately 30 stocks of U.S. software companies principally engaged in the research, design, production or distribution of products or processes related to software applications and systems; information-based services; and companies providing technology-driven logistics, blockchain, cybersecurity, and cloud-based enterprise solutions. Top holdings include Alphabet Inc., NVIDIA Corp., Meta Platforms Inc., Adobe Inc., and Advanced Micro Devices Inc., with the fund targeting capital appreciation through criteria such as fundamental growth, stock valuation, investment timeliness, and risk factors.
Launched on June 23, 2005, and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia as part of Invesco Ltd., the ETF operates primarily in the U.S. market with exposure to developed North American equities in the information technology sector, focusing on growth and value stocks across diversified market capitalizations.
In a major strategic shift effective after the close of markets on August 25, 2023, the fund announced changes to its name, ticker, underlying index, index provider, investment objective, and strategy; it transitioned from the Dynamic Software Intellidex Index (provided by ICE Data Indices, LLC) to the STOXX World AC NexGen Software Development Index (provided by STOXX Ltd.), rebranding as Invesco AI and Next Gen Software ETF (ticker: IGPT) to emphasize companies with significant exposure to future software development technologies, including AI-driven revenue streams.
The ETF underwent a 3-for-1 stock split on July 17, 2023, increasing share accessibility for investors. As of mid-2025, assets under management stand at approximately $170 million, with a net expense ratio of 0.56% and a focus on non-diversified holdings in the software and next-generation tech segments.
