Founded in 1896 and headquartered in Groot Drakenstein, Cape Town, South Africa, RFG Holdings was formerly known as Rhodes Food Group Holdings Limited, changing its name in April 2020; the company listed on the JSE in October 2014 and has since completed 10 acquisitions to expand its product offerings and customer base. In October 2025, JSE-listed Premier Group announced plans to acquire RFG Holdings through a share swap transaction valuing RFG at R4.3 billion, under which RFG shareholders will receive one Premier share for every seven RFG shares and collectively own 22.5% of the enlarged group, with RFG expected to delist from the JSE upon completion; the deal, supported by 77.7% of RFG shareholders and Premier's major investors, aims to create a combined entity with R28 billion in annual revenue and complementary product portfolios featuring no operational overlap.
