Business
Yamana Gold Inc. (Ticker: RNY.DE) operates as a Canadian-based precious metals producer focused on the exploration, development, and production of gold and silver properties across the Americas. The company owns and operates key mines including the Canadian Malartic gold-silver mine in Quebec, Canada, in a 50/50 joint venture with Agnico Eagle Mines Limited; the Jacobina gold mine in Bahia, Brazil; the El Peñón gold-silver mine and Minera Florida gold-silver-zinc mine in Chile; and the Cerro Moro gold-silver mine in Santa Cruz Province, Argentina; along with development projects such as the MARA copper-gold project in Argentina and the Wasamac gold project in Canada. Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Yamana conducts operations in mining-friendly jurisdictions including Canada, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, targeting primarily gold and silver output through underground and open-pit mining methods processed via carbon-in-pulp, Merrill-Crowe, or electrowinning systems to produce doré bars. In a major strategic shift, Yamana was acquired by Pan American Silver Corp. in March 2023 in a transaction valued at nearly US$4.8 billion, integrating its portfolio of four producing mines and development assets into Pan American's operations while now functioning as a subsidiary; prior to this, the company divested the Chapada copper-gold mine to Lundin Mining in 2019 for US$800 million and the Gualcamayo gold mine to Mineros S.A. for US$85 million to reduce debt.
