Shaftesbury Capital PLC Shaftesbury Capital PLC is a United Kingdom-based real estate investment trust that owns and manages a portfolio of mixed-use properties in London's West End, including Covent Garden, Carnaby, Soho, Chinatown, Seven Dials and Fitzrovia; the portfolio spans approximately 2.7 million square feet of lettable space comprising retail shops, food and beverage outlets such as restaurants, cafes and bars, office spaces, and residential apartments, with key holdings featuring 227 retail stores and 193 food and beverage concepts in Covent Garden alone alongside over 145 shops and 101 food and beverage outlets in Carnaby and Soho. Formed in March 2023 through the merger of Shaftesbury PLC, founded in 1986 by the Levy family, and Capital & Counties Properties PLC, originally incorporated in 1933, the company is headquartered at Regal House, 14 James Street, London WC2E 8BU and operates exclusively in central London neighbourhoods proximate to major Underground stations and Elizabeth Line transport hubs. Shaftesbury Capital maintains subsidiaries including 20 The Piazza Limited, C&C Properties UK Limited and Capco Covent Garden Limited, targeting high-footfall domestic and international customers across retail, leisure, hospitality, office and residential segments while focusing on active asset management, placemaking and sustainability to foster vibrant communities. In April 2025, the company completed a £2.7 billion long-term strategic partnership with Norges Bank Investment Management by selling a 25% non-controlling interest in its Covent Garden estate for gross proceeds of approximately £570 million, bolstering its balance sheet with pro forma net debt reduced to £0.7 billion and liquidity exceeding £1.1 billion to pursue targeted acquisitions such as £34 million invested year-to-date in Covent Garden and Soho assets, alongside disposals including its remaining Fitzrovia holdings for £12.3 million; leasing activity remains robust with 128 transactions securing £11.3 million in new rent 8% ahead of December 2024 estimated rental value, high occupancy at 1.7% vacancy, and recent openings by brands including Nespresso, Dolce & Gabbana, Autry, Farm Rio, Charlotte Tilbury and others across its destinations.
