Smiths News plc is the United Kingdom's largest newspaper and magazine wholesaler with 55% market share, distributing newspapers and magazines to over 22,400 retail outlets across England and Wales seven days a week; it provides early morning end-to-end supply chain solutions including final mile delivery, warehousing services such as pick, pack and sortation, stockroom management, returns processing and responsible disposal, storage solutions, print media distribution, and Smiths News Recycle for dry mixed materials, soft plastics and cardboard; ancillary businesses include DMD as a specialist supplier of printed and digital media to airlines and travel points worldwide, Instore for field-based merchandising, marketing, supply chain auditing and compliance solutions, and Martin Lavell as a corporate news distributor to public sector customers. The company operates from 35 distribution centres using a hub-and-spoke configuration with super hubs for round-the-clock sorting and prepacking, supported by a network of final mile contractors, and serves diverse customers from superstores and travel outlets to small rural convenience shops backed by bespoke systems for category management, assured KPIs, returns logistics and instore support. Founded with over 200 years of heritage and incorporated as a public limited company in 2004, Smiths News plc is headquartered in Rowan House, Kembrey Park, Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. Smiths News plc advances growth initiatives across key verticals including recycling, new product categories such as books and home entertainment for supermarkets and grocers, and final mile services, with the rollout of Smiths News Recycle progressing well and customer numbers increasing 5% versus year-end; it implements a new warehouse management system with rollout completion in FY2025, appoints a new Managing Director for recycling activities from a major waste management player in April 2025 to support expansion, and reports FY2025 trading in line with market expectations while leveraging its high-density UK delivery network.
