Business
SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 High Dividend ETF (SPYD) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results, before fees and expenses, corresponding generally to the total return performance of the S&P 500 High Dividend Index. The fund tracks the performance of the top 80 highest dividend-yielding companies within the S&P 500 Index, focusing on large-cap U.S. equities selected based on indicated dividend yield calculated from the latest regular dividend payments annualized and divided by share price at rebalancing; holdings are weighted by dividend yield and rebalanced quarterly. It offers investors a low-cost vehicle with a gross expense ratio of 0.07%, quarterly dividend distributions, and exposure across sectors including real estate (approximately 22%), consumer staples (17%), financials (15%), utilities (13%), and health care (8%), with top holdings such as CVS Health Corp, APA Corp, AbbVie Inc, Simon Property Group Inc, and Best Buy Co Inc. Launched on October 21, 2015, and managed by State Street Investment Management (formerly State Street Global Advisors), a division of State Street Corporation headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, SPYD operates primarily in the U.S. equity market, targeting income-oriented investors seeking high dividend yields alongside potential capital appreciation from S&P 500 constituents. In recent developments, State Street Investment Management has expanded its SPDR Portfolio ETF suite, including the launch of the State Street SPDR Ultra Short-Bill ETF (SPTU) in October 2025 to provide low-cost exposure to short-term U.S. Treasury bills, and collaborated with S&P Dow Jones Indices in June 2025 to introduce the SPDR S&P Vision Fund Range focusing on growth sectors in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. The firm underwent a rebranding from State Street Global Advisors to State Street Investment Management, unifying distribution of Select Sector SPDR ETFs under its brand as of late 2025, while announcing closures of certain underperforming ETFs to streamline its offerings.
