Business
The Sukhjit Starch & Chemicals Limited is an India-based agro-processing company engaged in the production of starch and its derivatives. Founded in 1943 and headquartered in Phagwara, Punjab, the company manufactures a broad range of products including maize starch; modified starches; dextrines; liquid glucose; high maltose syrup; malto dextrin powder; monohydrate dextrose; anhydrous dextrose; sorbitol 70% solution; maize gluten; maize germ; maize oil; and maize bran used as cattle feed. The company serves multiple industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, personal care, textiles, FMCG, paper and board, and animal and pet foods. It operates through segments including starch and its derivatives, a mega food park, and heavy machinery. Recently, The Sukhjit Starch & Chemicals Limited has been focused on significant capacity expansion at its manufacturing units to increase daily production capacity from 1,600 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes, with partial commissioning completed by late 2024 and full completion expected by early 2025. This expansion spans multiple product lines and locations and aims to meet rising demand, particularly driven by growing consumption of maize starch and derivatives in FMCG and pharmaceutical sectors. The company is also actively exploring both greenfield and brownfield expansion opportunities, including potential acquisitions, to strengthen its market position and product portfolio. Operational efficiency improvements and higher utilization of starch are prioritized to enhance margins and profitability. The company recently forged strategic partnerships to support growth initiatives and reinforce its competitive stance in the industry. The Sukhjit Group continues to leverage its 80-year technical expertise and has diversified its product offerings to include innovative, sustainable starch-based materials aligned with India's Make in India and PLI (Production Linked Incentive) schemes, supporting exports and domestic consumption growth. Its subsidiaries and joint ventures include setting up and operating a mega food park that provides infrastructure for food processing units, contributing to India's food processing industry development. The company maintains a commitment to quality and sustainability while expanding its geographic and industrial reach primarily within India, targeting regional, national, and global markets. Thus, The Sukhjit Starch & Chemicals Limited presents a comprehensive portfolio of starch-based products, ongoing strategic capacity expansions, and proactive growth strategies through partnerships and market diversification to drive long-term value in the agro-processing sector.
