Southern Cross Media Group Limited (ASX:SXL), doing business as Southern Cross Austereo, is Australia's largest radio broadcaster that creates and distributes audio content across broadcast (AM, FM and DAB+) and digital networks including the LiSTNR app and platform. The company operates 86 radio stations under the Hit Network, featuring adult contemporary music brands such as B105 Brisbane, Fox FM Melbourne, SAFM Adelaide and 2Day FM Sydney; and the Triple M Network, offering talkback and rock formats including Triple M Sydney, Triple M Melbourne and Triple M Brisbane; alongside digital-only stations like RnB Fridays, Dance Hits, Oldskool 80s Hits and SoundCloud Radio. It monetizes these assets through advertising solutions for clients, with stations reaching metropolitan and regional markets across all Australian states and territories. Headquartered in South Melbourne, Victoria, the company was founded in 2004.
Southern Cross Austereo exited regional television broadcasting in 2025, completing the sale of its licenses in Regional Queensland, Southern NSW/ACT and Regional Victoria to Network 10 in March 2025 for an undisclosed sum with profit-sharing over five years; and its remaining stations including those in Spencer Gulf, Broken Hill, Tasmania, Darwin and remote areas to Seven West Media for A$3.75 million in July 2025. In September 2025, Southern Cross Media Group announced a merger with Seven West Media to create a combined TV, audio and digital platform expected in early 2026, with Seven West Media CEO Jeff Howard to lead the entity; the independent expert deemed the scheme in the best interests of shareholders in November 2025. A prior non-binding acquisition offer from ARN Media and Anchorage Capital Partners in late 2023 collapsed in May 2024 after Anchorage withdrew following due diligence.
