Business
AT&T Inc. is a multinational telecommunications holding company headquartered in Dallas, Texas, primarily engaged in providing communications and technology services worldwide. Its core product and service portfolio spans wireless communications, including 5G mobile network services and unlimited data plans; fixed broadband services such as fiber optic internet and high-speed internet for residential and business customers; video services, including streaming offerings through HBO Max alongside traditional TV and on-demand content; and comprehensive business solutions encompassing networking, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. The company operates through two main segments: Communications and Latin America, serving individual consumers, small and large businesses, and enterprise customers across the United States and international markets. Founded in 1877, AT&T holds a leading position as the third largest telecommunications provider by revenue and wireless carrier in the U.S. In recent strategic developments during 2024 and 2025, AT&T has significantly accelerated its network modernization by investing heavily in expanding its 5G wireless infrastructure with a target to transition fully to an open radio access network (Open RAN) system by 2027. This initiative is supported by partnerships such as its collaboration with Ericsson to lead the U.S. in commercial-scale Open RAN deployment. The company also plans a substantial expansion of its fiber broadband footprint, aiming to reach over 50 million locations across the country while transitioning customers away from legacy copper infrastructure to fiber or 5G Fixed Wireless Access services by 2029. AT&T has announced a long-term capital investment commitment of $22 billion annually from 2025 to 2027 to fuel growth in 5G and fiber connectivity. Additionally, the company continues to rationalize its product portfolio to prioritize growth in mobile and fiber broadband services over declining legacy wireline business products. These initiatives align with AT&T's multi-year strategy focused on customer-centric connectivity, operational efficiency, and enhanced shareholder returns totaling over $40 billion through dividends and share repurchases over the next three years.
