Business
BMO Junior Oil Index ETF (ZJO.TO) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to replicate, to the extent possible and net of expenses, the performance of the Dow Jones North America Select Junior Oil Index, a float-adjusted market capitalization-weighted index tracking securities of companies engaged in oil and gas production or exploration in North America. The ETF invests in and holds the constituent securities of the index in the same proportions, including growth and value stocks across diversified market capitalizations primarily from small-cap junior oil producers; top holdings as of recent data include PE (7.74%), Tourmaline Oil Corp. (5.77%), XEC (5.68%), WPX (5.55%), and Gibson Energy Inc. (5.48%), representing equities with significant revenue from oil-related activities. Launched on May 19, 2010, and domiciled in Canada, the ETF is managed by BMO Asset Management Inc., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Montreal, with headquarters in Toronto, Ontario; it trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) in Canadian dollars, targets investors seeking exposure to the North American junior oil sector, and maintains approximately 58 holdings with an annual distribution frequency and a management expense ratio of 0.59%. Geographically, the ETF focuses on North American equities, with no currency hedging and significant exposure to Canadian and U.S. markets. In September 2020, BMO Asset Management Inc. announced the proposed termination of the ETF along with BMO Junior Gas Index ETF (ZJN) and BMO MSCI EAFE Value Index ETF (ZVI), culminating in final valuations and distributions declared on December 15, 2020, after which the units were delisted from the TSX; no recent revivals, mergers, or strategic changes have been reported, and current listings reflect legacy or erroneous data without active trading as of 2025.
